Caylee Anthony disappeared in mid-June when she was 2 years old, but she was not reported missing by her mother, Casey Anthony, 22, until a month later. The toddler would now be 3. Anthony was arrested the next day on charges including child neglect. But she became a person of interest in the toddler’s disappearance after police found traces of chloroform and strands of hair similar to those of the little girl’s in a car last driven by Anthony.

Casey was officially charged for first-degree murder Oct. 14. She has pleaded not guilty to charges ranging from first-degree murder to lying to investigators. She faces life in prison if convicted.

Despite their reluctance to connect the remains to the Anthony case, investigators from the Anthony case are at the discovery site and the Anthony family was notified of the discovery, Padilla said.

Sheriff’s deputies say the skeletal remains of a small child have been found less than half-mile from the Orlando home of a missing toddler. Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jim Solomons says a utility worker found the body at 9:32 a.m. today. There is nothing immediately indicating that the bones belong to Caylee Anthony, whose mother Casey Anthony has been charged with her murder.
